Not sure which "topic" best describes my question, so . . . .
OS: Windows 11 Thunderbird 140.1.0esr
I have been using T-bird for several years, and have made to changes to configuration in recent memory. Beginning today, when I try to send an email through my Comcast account, it fails with the following message:
“An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: resomta-h2p-555031.sys.comcast.net resomta-h2p-555031.sys.comcast.net EXMTP server not available.”
The outgoing SMTP server is configured as follows: Outgoing server: smtp.comcast.net Port: 465 Security: SSL/TLS
For comparison, sending email from my Android phone, using the Gmail client with the same server specs, also fails, thought it gives no information.
For more comparison, I configured Outlook to test with it, and it was able to send successfully. I noticed in setting it up that it used the same server name, but with port 587. Armed with that information, I changed the port setting in T-bird to 587. With that change, the send still failed but with a different error:
Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Just got computer back from shop where - rather than upgrade - they did a clean install of Win11. I was under the impression from them they'd backup everything on a new "backup" drive they installed to double my capacity as part of the upgrade process.
They're version of backing up Thunderbird left me with a folder "Thunderbird_profile_backup.zip" that is 9,698,657kb in size.
I am attempting to install Thunderbird on the essentially new computer and restore all data from the previous installation.
Is this even possible anymore at this point?
I have data in that file that is important not only financially but archived family info from now deceased members... I'd really like to recover it.
In short help! lol.

After deleting Thunderbird quite some time back, not because I was unhappy, but I changed computers and was going to install it on my new one. Instead, I'm back using my older computer because I hated Windows 11. After installing it on this computer, I opened it and didn't get the normal setup instructions and to make a long story short, after plunking around for a few minutes, I saw messages that I had written sometime back. I tried deleting Thunderbird (again!) doing a c cleaner and making sure that nothing was left on my computer and tried again. Same thing! I need to know what I can do or what Mozilla Thunderbird has to do to allow me to actually setup with new information when I install it again. Thanks for ANY responses that will solve this headache.

Hi all,
Thunderbird keeps telling me that my junk settings are wrong but not what it things is wrong. So I have no clue how to fix it. Something needs to trigger this dialog, so why don't tell the user what it is?
Does someone else has a similar issue? How do I find out if there is an issue and how can I fix it? If there is no problem, how do I get rid of the dialog? It pops-up every time I change something in the account settings, really annoying.
I attached a screenshot of the error dialog and my junk settings.
Thanks a lot!

How do I export all my emails from Thunderbird to my local HDD?
I know there are a few different methods but which is the best option?
I have 22GB of Emails on my Yahoo Mail and I want to download the to my local HDD.
When I have a complete backup of the entire thing I plan to delete them from my Yahoo Mail to clean up some space.

Our business email is technically a Gmail account that shows as our business name. (info@businessname.com) In past Gmail allowed us to set up emails on Thunderbird or other system as a POP account. As such the email would be set up as this..... recent:info@businessname.com This allowed us to receive emails on multiple computers where each person could file or delete as needed.
Gmail has since required us to only use IMAP accounts for security. In Thunderbird when you set up an IMAP account it will not let you put the word "recent" in front of the email name AND if someone deletes the email on one computer or phone it is then deleted on the others.
The oddest thing about this whole mess is one of our computers still has the POP account for one email (we have 4 emails) and three had to be set up as an IMAP.
Any suggestions on how to get around this issue?
Thanks in advance

Recent problem, real nasty, may just have to give up on Thunderbird, at least on the Windows 10 computer.
Click on folder name in folder list, all messages previously downloaded and viewable, when the message list appears, it instantly disappears and the message list pane displays "no message found" and it proceeds to download the entire message list all over again. For some folders with over a hundred thousand messages, this is unacceptable, obviously.

There is ONE SPECIFIC email message in my inbox that I cannot move, copy or delete. Whether I drag-and-drop or use drop down menu - same result. This is the ONLY message in all my email accounts/inboxes which has this problem.
Continuing the attempt to move or copy causes the drop down menu to ask me if I want to move/copy the message AGAIN - but it still does not move or get copied. Hitting "Delete" on my keyboard or clicking the "garbage can" icon in the drop down menu has no effect - the email remains in my inbox.

I have two issues that are related to a buggy interaction between Thunderbird and Microsoft's email server.
Issue (1) When I send an email with my Outlook email address (from the Android app or from outlook.live.com, but not Thunderbird), my email address shows up as a jumbled mess in the sent folder on Thunderbird.
It appears to the effect of
IMCEAEX-_O=FIRST+20ORGANIZATION_OU=EXCHANGE+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP+XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX+29_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX@sct-XX-XX-XXXX-X-msonline-outlook-6f06c.templateTenant
(I have masked some potentially sensitive information).
In the sent folder on my Outlook Android app, my email address looks normal. It also looks fine on a browser in outlook.live.com. However, it's in the sent folder on Thunderbird that my email address is a mess.
Issue (2) When my Outlook email address is involved, the sending and receiving email addresses in the "correspondent" field are swapped in Thunderbird.
There are a couple situations where this swap happens:
These two issues are perplexing and probably related. Thank you for any help!
See the attached screenshot. This incorrect threading, in all folders, also occurs in Troubleshoot Mode.
